Food and Herb Resiliency in The Cycle of Life

QUICK TIP: When you focus your attention on how resources cycle through your system, it is much easier to create a resilient food system for yourself, your community, and the environment.
Food and Herb Resiliency and The Cycle of Life
I had a few people ask me to give a presentation about my basis for why I do what I do. The full video is on Delectable Tiny Gardens YouTube channel as a live replay at
Here is a brief article on my thoughts on the subject.
I’m going to start with what I believe, because this informs what I do in my work and how I live my life. So briefly:
1) I believe that the Earth is a living, breathing, and conscious being. She is a part of a living, vibrant, and pulsating universe. And, every living thing on this Earth is a part of that living and breathing cycle of life.
2) Because I believe this, I hold every aspect of that cycle of life and that system to be sacred, because, the same life and the same energy and the same spirit that is in you and me is in everything on this Earth. To put it another way, What we do to the Earth, we do to ourselves.
This has a number if implications in practical terms.
1) Scientifically, energy is neither created or destroyed - It just is. It changes from one form to another, but it is not destroyed. In one moment, it might take form as a tree. In the next, it might be released as heat in a fire. It is the same energy in different forms.
2) The amount of energy and resources in this living system is fixed with boundaries and limits. Yes we do have energy coming in from the sun, but it is a part of the bigger system.
3) The energy and abundance that you have access to is without limits.
But wait, I just said that the resources have limits. Then I said abundance is limitless. How can both be true?
In the video, I give the example of the dollar bill and how it cycles through the system creating much more abundance that that simple dollar.
In the same way, if I grow kale, I can feed it to my rabbit. My rabbit poos in the corner. The worms eat the rabbit poo. The chickens eat the worms and scatter the fertility around the area. Then, I grow more kale. The cycle continues going around in abundant life.
That is how abundance on Earth works. When you view it as a living system and cycle the energy and resources, abundance becomes virtually infinite. When you extract the same resources and hold them or carelessly discard them, abundance dries up.
Our job is to create abundance and resiliency by putting ourselves in the cycle of life and to encourage that flow.
